Who funded fight over the Growth Policy?

According to Commissioner of Political Practices Dennis Unsworth, five different political committees registered with the state to try and influence the outcome of the referendum calling for the Repeal of the Ravalli County Growth Policy. Three of those committees filed as “incidental committees” and have only to divulge expenditures on the political campaign. Two of the committees, however, filed full reports listing both contributors and expenses. More...

The Capitol Christmas Tree was cut down on the Bitterroot National Forest southeast of Hamilton on Saturday, November 1 in front of a large crowd. The tree was in Stevensville on Tuesday as its first stop on the tour across the nation. A lighting ceremony is scheduled for December 2 on the west lawn of the capitol building in Washington, D.C.

Streamside protection regs go to commissioners

The Ravalli County Streamside Setback Committee delivered its final draft of proposed Streamside Protection Regulations (SPR) to the county commissioners on Friday, October 31. They also submitted a minority report written by Travis Martinez, a Bitterroot Builders Association representative on the committee, as well as a summary of verbal and written public comment “received, analyzed and adopted throughout the formulation of the SPR document.” More...

Hamilton Ward 3 Councilor appointed

The Hamilton City Council appointed Claudia Williamson as the new Councilor for Ward 3 at a special meeting last Thursday, October 30. The Council voted to fill the seat by secret ballot after interviewing three of the four applicants. That included Williamson, Bob Frost and Jim Olsen. The fourth applicant, Wayne Craw, was a no show at the interviews. Williamson has served as Ward 3 Councilor in the past. More...

Stevensville Mayor Bill Meisner submitted a letter of resignation to the town clerk on Thursday, October 30, citing personal reasons for the decision and requesting that the resignation be effective immediately. More...

County set to establish impact fees

Ravalli County Commissioners adopted an ordinance on Monday, November 3, authorizing and establishing the procedure for imposition of impact fees to fund capital improvements in the county. An impact fee represents a fee for service payable by all users creating additional demand on a public facility. The impact fees could be assessed on new developments in the county that create increased demands upon public facilities such as schools, fire halls and the county sheriff’s office and other emergency services.
