Commissioners set to rescind subdivision regulations

By Michael Howell

The new Board of County Commissioners wasted no time in bringing up for review the subdivision regulation changes adopted in the final days of the outgoing board of commissioners. Chomping at the bit to do something about the regulations, which members of the new board felt were passed without sufficient public review, a meeting was scheduled for January 3, to review and possibly rescind those regulations. Cody Omlid, artist and owner of Kodiak Jax, recently received an award from the Stevensville Main Street Association for his enhancement of a bare lot he owns on the corner of Main and Sixth in downtown Stevensville, next to his restaurant. Omlid landscaped the area and built a rock cave. Then he carved and painted bears and a trout and placed them to create a scene of bears fishing and otherwise enjoying themselves. Omlid did all the work himself. He is pictured with Joan Prather, executive director of SMSA. Jean Schurman photo.

Planning director resigns

By Michael Howell

Ravalli County Planning Director John Lavey turned in his letter of resignation on Monday, January 3, just prior to the afternoon meeting scheduled to reconsider the county’s new subdivision regulations. But it was no spur of the moment decision and was a move he has contemplated for some time and prepared for. He has a job waiting for him in another state and his last day serving as Planning Director in Ravalli County will be Friday, January 14. More...

County contracts with Sapphire Healthcare, Inc.

By Michael Howell

One of the last acts of the outgoing Board of County Commissioners that does not sit well with current board members but will not be changed is the contract for services with Sapphire Helathcare, Inc. for primary health care services that was approved on December 28, 2010. More...

FlatIron subdivision moving forward

By Michael Howell

The Ravalli County Planning Board began a review of the FlatIron Subdivision last week but made no decision about the proposal. County Planner John Lavey said that several concerns about the development were discussed at the meeting and the developer’s consultant team will be formulating some responses. More...

Commission meetings to go on-line

One more decision made by the outgoing “lame duck” Board of County Commissioners was undone by the new all-Republican board last week. A decision made by the old board on December 29, 2010 to purchase a new audio system for the commissioners’ meeting room at a cost of up to $6,000 was nixed as all of the current board members thought the project should be put out to bid. County updates wastewater treatment regulations

By Michael Howell

After about a year of review, discussion and evaluation that began in January 2010, the Ravalli County Board of Health, following public hearings on December 15 and December 20, adopted an “updated” version of the county’s Subsurface Wastewater Treatment and Disposal Regulations. The new regulations went into effect January 1, 2011. More...
